HOUSTON, TX (September 3, 2015)—U.S. Capital Advisors LLC (“USCA”) announced that Mel Schonhorst has joined USCA as a Managing Director of Public Finance.

USCA’s Public Finance Group offers more than 100 years of collective experience to governmental entities throughout Texas.  The now ten-person team serves over 80 education clients and more than 70 cities, counties and special districts.

Mr. Schonhorst has served as a Financial Advisor to local governments since 1983 and is experienced in virtually all types of municipal debt financing.  “Mel’s integrity and deep level of industry knowledge will be excellent compliments to USCA’s established Public Finance group” commented David Holland, Senior Managing Director and Head of Municipal Securities for USCA. 

Mr. Schonhorst was a Senior Vice President and Manager of Texas Public Finance for WR Hough & Co. prior to its acquisition by RBC.   Mel had been a Director for First Southwest Company and Managing Director and co-office manager for Rauscher Pierce Refsnes.  Prior to investment banking, Mr. Schonhorst gained six-years’ experience at Ernst & Young where he supervised public finance consulting services to investment banks on a national basis and audits of both corporate and municipal clients, including the City of Tucson, County of Pima, and the University of Arizona.

Mel previously worked as a CPA before joining USCA and completed the AASA and TASB affiliated strategic planning internal facilitator program. Mel obtained his B.B.A. from the University of Arizona in 1977 and his MBA degree from Cornell University in 1994.
