Clay is a Senior Managing Director within the Institutional Client Group at U.S. Capital Advisors. He is responsible for covering mutual funds, hedge funds and pension funds invested in the energy sector while providing USCA’s research, corporate access and trading capabilities as well as trading and investment ideas. He is also a member of USCA’s Operating Committee.
Prior to joining USCA, Clay spent nearly ten years with Tudor Pickering Holt & Co (TPH), an energy sector focused investment bank, where he was a Managing Director and Partner. From 2011-2016 he was head of TPH’s Institutional Equity Sales & Trading business and responsible for cash equities revenue growth, agency trading, capital markets interaction on new issue and follow-on offerings as well as direct client coverage responsibilities including many of TPH's key institutional equity clients coast-to-coast and in Canada. He was also a member of TPH’s Management Committee from 2012-2016.
Prior to joining TPH, Clay was with the institutional equity sales desks of both Banc of America Securities and Deutsche Bank covering multiple industry sector groups. Before moving to the institutional equity sales & trading side of the business, he was in the investment banking groups of both GulfStar Group and Jefferies working on debt, equity and M&A transactions focused mainly on E&P, oilfield service and crude oil tanking companies.
Clay is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, South Texas College of Law in Houston and is a licensed attorney in the State of Texas.
